Thematic dossier: "The ancient and the new epic poetry"
Antiquity bequeathed us the great epics of Western Culture, from Mycenaean to Roman times, from the twelfth century BC to the first century BC, with the quest for excellence and immortal individual glory on the part of the Homeric hero, through the existential aporia of the Alexandrian hero in Argonautica, to the Virgilian poem, the epic founder of civilization, who places men on the path of labor at the service of the common good, in Aeneid. Inspiring adaptations, appropriations and new aesthetic concepts, over time, the epic poetry is an epistemological space, which interacts with Geography, History, Anthropology, Politics and Arts. We propose a number of the Revista Épicas that testifies to the various aspects of the epic poetry, from antiquity to the present day.
